Are Traditional Batteries' Safety Risks Under High-Speed Impact Worrying? Dongchi Energy Provides the Safety Answer with Breakthrough Solid-State Battery Tech!

At the "2025 New Energy Smart Vehicle Innovation Forum" held in Changchun, Dongchi Energy Chairman Xie Haiming not only exposed the industry's pain points but also demonstrated the formidable strength of domestic solid-state batteries through a series of stunning extreme safety tests.

Addressing the Industry Dilemma
Chairman Xie Haiming pinpointed the current lithium battery dilemma: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) is relatively safe but limited in energy density, while Ternary (NMC/NCA) offers high energy density but carries greater risks. Moreover, increasing energy density often amplifies safety hazards. The solution? Solid-state batteries are key!

Dongchi Energy has chosen a pragmatic and efficient industrialization path: progressing step-by-step from semi-solid to quasi-solid, and ultimately to all-solid-state batteries. This strategy effectively bypasses the technological bottlenecks of full solid-state industrialization while significantly enhancing battery safety at each stage.

Hardcore Safety Validation
At the forum, Chairman Xie showcased rigorous safety test videos of Dongchi’s solid-state batteries, astonishing attendees:

  • Nail Penetration Test:
    Traditional liquid batteries showed concerning results—LFP batteries emitted smoke, while ternary batteries exploded violently. In contrast, Dongchi’s semi-solid battery exhibited a mere 0.45°C temperature rise, stable voltage, and zero signs of thermal runaway.

  • Hammer Impact Test:
    The demonstration video showed a heavy hammer repeatedly striking the battery until "the casing shattered and internal components were exposed," yet the battery remained safe. "Current liquid batteries easily catch fire upon impact, while ours remain stable even when completely crushed," explained Chairman Xie.

  • External Short-Circuit Test:
    Dongchi’s high-capacity 314Ah battery experienced an instantaneous current surge exceeding 20C during a short circuit. However, leveraging the intrinsic fuse characteristic unique to polymer solid-state batteries, the system automatically cut off the current within 3 seconds, preventing large-scale energy release. This feature is critical for safety in vehicle collision scenarios.

"Even in the worst-case scenario where the BMS fails, the battery’s inherent safety design remains the last line of defense," Chairman Xie emphasized, highlighting the core value of solid-state technology.

Industrialization & Future Outlook
Building on 20 years of R&D, Dongchi Energy has established a comprehensive product ecosystem:

  • Semi-solid LFP Series: High safety, long cycle life, low cost. Products: 100Ah & 314Ah prismatic aluminum-shell batteries for residential/industrial ESS, heavy-duty trucks, and electric vessels.

  • Quasi-solid Ternary Series: Breakthrough energy density of 350-450Wh/kg. Products: 54Ah & 60Ah quasi-solid ternary batteries for premium EVs, flying cars, and drones.

Dongchi is accelerating production:

  • Changchun Base: 0.5GWh solid-state battery pilot line operational.

  • Wenzhou Base: Under construction; 4GWh production line with ¥2B investment.

  • Yibin Base: Planned ¥400M investment for composite current collector manufacturing and polymer solid-state battery R&D center; 0.2GWh pilot line planned.

"Solid-state battery industrialization isn’t achieved overnight," Chairman Xie acknowledged at the forum. *"But through our stepwise semi-solid to quasi-solid approach, we’re steadily advancing commercialization. The 30% market penetration forecast by 2030 is a rational projection based on current progress."*

As Xie Haiming stated: "Safety is the lifeline of electric vehicles, and solid-state batteries will be its strongest guardian."
